Places I Can’t Live

Screen print

15” x19”

Places I Can’t Live is a series of screen prints depicting homes in the southern Ontario towns with the most documented cases of transphobic and homophobic hate. This series aims to explore some of the barriers that queer people face in choosing where we can safely exist.

In November of 2023 I went on a two day road trip with my partner through these towns to take the photos that would eventually become this series of prints. Some of the places we visited were beautiful. I was anxious the entire trip. The choice to present this work as screen prints rather than digital photographs was made with the intention of prolonging the life and process of the work before coming to a final print and in doing so, learning to sit with my own discomfort and anxiety.
